Happy Holidays to my bookish friends! I am excited to wrap up the year and spend the next week or so working on a short story I started writing. It’s been a while since I’ve written prose. I spent most of the year finishing the first draft of my poetry book and getting this newsletter and blog up and running. After I finish the first draft of my short-form piece, I’ll be back to reading, reviewing, and editing. My goal in 2025 is to develop a more consistent cadence to my writing, so hopefully I’ll have more updates on what that looks like in the new year. For now, let’s review everything I read in The Little Fox Lair in 2024.

Table of Contents

2024 Reading Metrics

I met my main reading goal for the year, which is an absolute miracle after hitting two major reading slumps (there is a graph of that below). If you are not already using StoryGraph to track your reading progress, I highly recommend joining. It is a Black woman-owned business, and the platform has great metrics.

Even though I met my goals for number of books and listening minutes, I didn’t meet my page number goal. This drives me batty, but it’s something for me to work towards next year.

If you follow me on social media, you know I usually have a physical book, an e-book, and an audiobook on hand at any given time. I like to read physical books at home, e-books on the go, and audiobooks on 2x speed while I rage clean my entire house. As you can see here, 2024 had a fairly even split on format.

My long-term followers also know that I am a mood reader. People often say “read what you want”, but I prefer to tell people to “read what you need”. According to this pie chart– Emo wasn’t a phase.

The 2024 genres aren’t too surprising. I have a list of preferred genres on my welcome post so that authors and readers know what I’m open to reviewing. I think this matches up pretty well.

I find the graph below to be the most helpful to me. I am very open about my autoimmune journey on my platform. I have Lupus, and unfortunately it attacks my brain when it’s really bad. As you can see from the graph, my reading pace slows down significantly when I have flares. In between events, I work to increase my reading speed and comprehension to keep my brain sharp and work on cognitive enhancement. There are a lot of great studies done on how reading can strengthen memory and cognition as you age.

Shopping With Intention

I want to feature two women-owned businesses this month. If you need gifts for readers or writers in the future, these are some wonderful options:

The Literary Book Club

I am very honored to have been picked to be a seasonal ambassador for The Literary Book Club Box. They have sent me two gifts this season full of bookish goodies. Here are two spoiler-free photos of the contents. This is a luxury, literary box– and it is perfect for readers that love the classics or romantic themes. One of my packages even came with a Chiltern Classic book (if you haven’t seen Chiltern editions, I highly recommend looking them up). The items inside the boxes are all very practical and high-quality, so they will get used!

You can visit The Literary Book Club website HERE. Use code THELITTLEFOXLAIR for $5 off your first subscription.

Hello Clio

The next business I’d like to introduce you to is Hello Clio. This brand makes an awesome belt bag that will fit various sizes of e-readers and tablets. They recently came out with a larger size belt bag and a backpack as well. Hello Clio has kindly given me a promo code for my subscribers to use. You can shop on their website HERE. Use code THELITTLEFOXLAIR to get 10% off your entire order.

Signing Off

Finally, I want to thank everyone that has subscribed and shared this newsletter and blog this year. If you have followed and shared my content on social media, thank you for the support there as well. The Little Fox Lair has become such a fun passion project for me. I have made so many new reader and writer friends, and that in itself has made my time working on this worth it.

I hope everyone has a happy and healthy end of the year. I’ll be signing off until January, but I can’t wait to see you in 2025.
