Welcome to Spring!
Happy May Day! March and April flew by, and true spring is finally here in New England. I have many updates for you now that winter hibernation has ended.
March and April Reads
I’ve been slow to post long-form reviews the last few months. When life gets busy, I focus on publishing advanced reader copy reviews and fulfilling those deadlines first. I am still reading lots of books in between though! If I don’t have time to post a full review on a book, I’ll make sure to include a brief recap of my thoughts here in the newsletters to give you more recommendations and genre options. With that said, here are my March and April reads:

Beyond the Map’s Edge by Justin Posey is a memoir of the author’s experience growing up hunting for treasure in the United States. The book contains clues to a real-life treasure hunt that Posey has coordinated. For more information, you can check out his website, but I highly recommend this read. It is a lot of fun to speculate where the artifacts might be, and his story is sentimental and incredibly interesting. | I did a full review of The Wildelings by Lisa Harding that you can read here. This was the perfect mix of literary fiction and dark academia. | The Never List by Jade Presley is the first book in the Never List series, and it is a wild ride. If you like spicy Romantasy, then let me introduce you to “The Legends of Chaos”. This is a “Why Choose?” romance that I’d rate a 4 out of 5 on the hot tamale meter. |

Our Infinite Fates by Laura Steven is definitely in the running for my favorite book of 2025 (so far). This book is categorized as YA fantasy romance, but I think it could also crossover into the speculative fiction category. It focuses on conscious reincarnation, and the writing is stunning. | Audition by Katie Kitamura is such a unique piece of literary fiction. The novel requires some interpretation, and I would consider it to be a complex and intellectual read. If you have the desire to read something more abstract, this is a great choice. |
Ongoing Reads
In addition to chipping away at my ever-growing To Be Read pile, I have two books that I am going to be working through over the next few months. I’m giving myself the rest of 2025 to read these if need be.
House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski is a challenging read. The format is unique, and you will need to purchase the book or borrow it from your local library in order to read it. It is non-linear, and requires some additional efforts to decode what is going on. I set up a discussion on The Little Fox Lair Discord channel for the book. If anyone is interested in joining, you can jump in at any time. The Discord is private, so if you would like an invite, please message me on my socials for a link. If this discussion format is successful, then I will set up similar discussions for other books in the future.
The second continuous read I will be doing is Mythos by Stephen Fry. So many of the books I read have aspects of mythology woven into them. I thought it would be a good idea to reacquaint myself with the original stories of the gods and goddesses. There is a lot of information to study in this book, but it is easy to read and I love that it is illustrated as well.
